Fast Facts about Navagrahastalam
Chandrabhagavan
Location- Located in Tamil Nadu state, Navagrahastalam
Chandrabhagavan is approx 25kms far from the Thanjavur in the north direction
that is on the way from Thirivaiyaru.
History- As per the legends and the history it
is stated that Chandra was quite dashing guy and one of the most eligible
bachelor of his time and for this, Daksha Prajapati tied the knot of all his 27
daughters with Chandra. But, after the marriage, Chandra got little partial and
would not treat all equally, he was inclined toward Rohini only.

asked him to treat all 27 daughters equally but Chandra refused to do the same
and acted contrary thus Prajapati got offended and cursed that he will suffer
from the severe wasting diseases. By not taking it too seriously, Chandra
ignored it and continued with the same.
After words
when the curse got effective, Chandra prayed to Lord Shiva to get rid of this
curse and by saving him from this disease or the curse, Lord Shiva was asked to
remain in the temple in Thingalur and should relief to those who are suffering
from the same disease. So much people, who are poorly affected by the
unpleasant positions of Chandra in their horoscopes offer prayers to Lord
Kailasanathar, God by offering prayers.
Architecture- Built in 7th Century by Pallava King
Rajasimha, Navagrahastalam Chandrabhagavan is about 1500. It’s an ancient
Shaivite shrine temple which reflects the earlier Dravidian culture. In the
front facing of the temple one can see the huge Nandi where pilgrims. At the
main shrine there is a 16-sided Shiva lingam which is beautifully made up of
black granite. A unique view of this temple is when sun rays fall on the Lingam
in the month of Puratasi (September – October) and Panguni (March-April).
Auspicious times- In the Tamil month of Panguni (March
– April) on the full moon day (Pournami) , the day before and on the succeeding
day (3 days), when the rays of the rising moon fall on Lord Siva
(Kailasanathar). Arathi is shown to God Siva. This atypical trend occurs only
in Thingalur. Poojas are performed on Full moon days and every Mondays are very
exceptional in this temple.
